His Excellency Mark Capes, Governor of Saint Helena , Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha , has warmly welcomed Royal approval of the design of the first ever flag of Ascension Island, saying: I am delighted to announce that Her Majesty The Queen has graciously approved the design of the first ever flag for Ascension Island, part of the British Overseas Territory of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.

Vice-Regal Finials to donate or Purchase

Our Vice-Regal Standards (flags), an Exhibition of Her Majesty The Queens Representatives from around the world is unique and once the flagstaffs are each capped with a finial, it will be an Exhibition to rival any display around the world. The Finial is as you can see from the Photographs a splendid and well-crafted example. It is comprises of St Edwards Crown with the Lion of England standing astride the crowns arches. It is made in Brass and then gold-plated. It stands 17.5cm tall (7 inches) X 9.5cm (4 inches) wide. They would also make a fabulous paper-weight (see photo), lamp or a prestigious trophy.

There are 57 Vice Regal-Standards but we have to order the minimum of 100 pieces. The remainder will be sold to people wishing to purchase them for 90. Once we have reached to the 100 mark we can then place the order so please be patient you will get your Finial !

After we have achieved the 57 for the V-R Exhibition, the proceeds of the remaining 43 goes towards to our Charitys Commonwealth Disaster Relief Scheme - this helps the Commonwealth Nations and British Overseas Territories after natural disaster like earthquakes, Tsunamis, floods and wildfires.

The annual gathering for members of the commonwealth took place, with special guests Kimberley Durrant representing the governor of Bermuda, and John Dauth the Australian high commissioner, see the report read about the event here .

Visit by Shadow Minister for Europe

Shadow Minister for Europe Mark Francois MP and Chris Heaton Harris MEP paid a visit to the Commonwealth Flag Project and Disaster Relief Scheme in Flore, during a whirlwind tour of Northamptonshire today.

The Minister stayed for over an hour for learn more about the Project from some of the Patrons, trustees and local supporters. The Minister was surprised at the effect a Community project like this can have on a wider world stage when he learned of the Disaster Relief Scheme sending for example, funds to help Commonwealth countries such as the Turks and Caicos Islands and help the many who suffered in the Australian Wildfires.

He also took a keen interest in the Projects involvement with schools and saw how it worked well as a great learning tool for the children. A former forces man, the Minister knew a great deal about the Overseas Territories such a the Falklands and South Georgia & the Sandwich Islands and the next few years hopes to pay a visit.
He said the project is a credit to the Community and wished the Organisation and the people of Flore the very best and would look forward to returning again when possible.
